This afternoon I stopped by Michael's to drop a couple items off to get framed and also to pick up some starter drawing supplies. I wasn't really sure what I needed, so I got a small "field sketchbook," a pack of Prismacolor pens of varying sizes and head types, and a case of pencils, charcoal pencils, pastels, erasers, sharpeners, etc.

When I finally sat down to do some sketching, I first started out by trying to match the style Danielle Corsetto uses in her webcomic Girls With Slingshots. Then I flipped through photos of people in the Threadless gallery on Flickr. There are plenty of interesting faces in there (though most are blurry and poorly lit), so I just chose some to sketch and came up with this thing you see here. It's certainly not "good," but it is a good start. I don't think I've done anything like this since... uhm... 8th grade maybe? It feels real good to be giving it a somewhat serious try.

And now you might ask why I might be doing this. Well, I need something to do. A new hobby. Something to keep my mind occupied and off of... other things. Maybe if I continue to like what I'm doing I'll continue to post them here for your gawking pleasure.
