There's so much more to Zombieland...

Browsing io9 this evening I happened across a wonderful interview with Jesse Eisenberg (Columbus), and Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the star, and writers of Zombieland respectively. If you haven't seen the movie yet, do not read this interview, however, do go see the movie immediately. If you have already seen the movie, you should find this interview interesting. They talk about the death of the celebrity cameo, which was brilliant, and all the other celebrities considered for said cameo. Very intersting...

Additionally, there's another interview with the writers about the original plans for Zombieland. Apparently, it was originally written as a television series, and in its movie incarnation, you're seeing the first two episodes. Meaning, if there were originally 23 episodes planned, there's enough story left for many more Zombieland movies. Just imagine all of the hilarious possibilities!

A Mechwarrior Maybe?

I suggested earlier this month that a Mechwarrior movie seems like a really good idea... and now there are rumors of just such a movie in development.

*crossesfingers*

New and improved!

I finally pulled the trigger and deployed my latest code for this here blog-thing. There are all sorts of new features, most of which none of you will care about, but it was a big deal to me to finally get bunches of nagging issues cleaned up, repaired, or built out. The new features include:

  • Better URLs! - The URLs should make more sense when navigating the site. Other URL features have to do with this next feature...

  • Real Pagination! - No more Javascript pagination, this is now real (and obviously slower) pagination with the behavior you expect. And yes, switching pages will be slower, but you will be downloading less data as you will only get the current page, not all pages at once. With this, the URLs should maintain their prettiness.

  • Category List! - You can now see a listing of all the available categories (or tags) in the header of every article or by going to the tags page.

  • Feed? - Not really a feature, but the feed link has changed. Sorry folks.

  • Private Articles! - Actually, there have always been private articles, but now any article that isn't viewable by guests will be marked with a lock icon.

I can't remember if there's more, so I might update this list if I come up with anything else. Please provide me with any comments, suggestions, or, *ahem* bug reports. Enjoy!

Highlander Reboot

The word on the street is that a Highlander reboot is in the works with Fast and Furious director Justin Lin attached as the director. I certainly love me some Highlander and the thought of seeing a modern recreation of the movie (trying to ignore most of the sequels) is kinda exciting. The comments in the linked thread are interesting mostly for their guesses/suggestions for cast members.

It's not what you think...

I realize I haven't been posting much, well, except for reviews, but that's actually because I've been crazy busy rewriting most of the logic that makes this here blog work. I feel like I am getting really close to having things ready to go into production, so just hold tight a little longer...

Of course it makes perfect sense...

Slashdot has posted a story about Sony's seemingly blatant copyright infringement against Alejandro Fernandez in which they distributed a CD of songs they didn't have rights to. Doing the math based on precedent set in two RIAA cases such as the Jammie Thomas ruling which gives $80K per song or the Sony vs Joel Tenenbaum ruling, which gives $22.5K per song, Sony would be looking at judgments of $1,151,460,000 to $4,094,080,000. Of course, while it makes perfect sense, it's something we'll never see. Thank you double standards for making life so baffling and yet predictable.

Yes, this is a little sensationalist since this is all taking place in Mexico, which has different laws and precedent is different, of course, but I still expect the US rulings will be indicated if this ever goes to trial. And also, we have no idea what Fernandez's contract was, so it's quite possible that Sony does have rights to those tracks.

Look who's joining the Dollhouse cast

It looks like Dollhouse is becoming a who's-who of BSG and Whedonites. So Dollhouse already features Eliza Dushku and Felicia Day from Buffy, Amy Acker from Angel, Alan Tudyk from Firefly, and Tahmoh Penikett from BSG. Now they'll be adding Summer Glau from Firefly, Michael Hogan (Saul Tigh) from BSG, and Alexis Denisof from Buffy and Angel.

This certainly isn't a bad thing, it's just constantly funny to me how actors turn up together in the same shows all time.

Social media baaaad...

You have to say that title as if you are Frankenstein's monster waving his arms at a lit torch in order to get in the spirit of Southestern Conference's (SEC) soon to be announced social media policies. The policy posted earlier this month read:
Ticketed fans can't "produce or disseminate (or aid in producing or disseminating) any material or information about the Event, including, but not limited to, any account, description, picture, video, audio, reproduction or other information concerning the Event."

So basically, if I were at a game (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!1!) and I posted a tweet (HAHAHAHA!!!) saying "We're ahead by 3!" the SEC could... what... wave their arms and yell "social media baaaaad!!!" I mean, seriously, what are they going to do? Would they even know, by the tweet, who posted it? Would they get a court order to view my cell phone records or Twitter account history to verify I posted the offending update to the four and a half users subscribed to my Twitter feed? Would they issue a take-down notice? Do they really want to prevent people from getting interested in their events?

This is reminding me a lot of the record labels' fight against online radio stations like Pandora, because you really can't calculate the the massive damage caused by fans discovering your artists music and using these new mediums to purchase albums/songs and rave/rant about these artists. After all, it's all about ensuring you maintain the smallest audience possible in order to guarantee your collapse in the unavoidable world of the Internet.

Way to go asshats.

You can read a more thorough presentation of the issue over at mashable.

Update: I heard on the radio a few minutes ago that the policy has been revised to only ban live video streams. I haven't yet found an article explaining this.

Underworld still expanding...

Sony Screen Gems has announced plans to make a fourth Underworld movie. Now, I like this franchise just fine, but I wonder what story they are trying to tell that they haven't told already. Is there a greater arc they want to expand on, or is this just another chapter in the lives of the vampire/werewolf lovers that may or may not be entertaining? I guess we wait and see...

Life is Hard!

As a character in a choose-your-own-adventure story, you live a life of pain and, will most likely end in death. Over and over and over again.
